Quick Summary

The itel A100 is an entry-level 4G smartphone from itel, launched in India on 09/02/2026 and sold through offline retail stores. It pairs a 6.6-inch HD+ 90Hz display with the Unisoc T7100 chipset, a 5000mAh battery, Android 15 Go and a military-grade durability claim. Its extras, an IR blaster and UltraLink offline calling, are rare in this price band. Performance and cameras are basic, so it suits first-time smartphone buyers and users who mainly need calling, messaging and light browsing.

Design & Build Quality

The A100 uses a flat-frame design with a camera deco on the back that is meant to look closer to a premium phone. At 8.49 mm it is not especially slim, but the 6.56-inch screen with a 90% screen-to-body ratio keeps the body manageable in one hand. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a water drop notch complete the layout. It comes in Silk Green, Titanium Gold and Pure Black.

The more important point is durability. The maker says the phone has been tested for temperatures up to 43°C for up to 72 hours, down to -35°C, humidity up to 95% and repeated drops from 1.2 metres on each face, edge and corner. These are the manufacturer's test claims and are not the same as water or dust resistance, since no IP rating is listed. For buyers who carry a phone in a pocket on a daily commute, tested resistance to knocks and heat is a practical comfort.

Display

The 6.56-inch HD+ IPS panel has a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels, which works out to about 269 PPI. Text is readable, but it will look softer than on a Full HD panel. The 90Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and animations look smoother than the 60Hz screens common at this price, and the 180Hz touch sampling rate helps touch response in games.

Typical brightness is 400 nits. In bright Indian sunlight, that is on the lower side, so outdoor readability will need the brightness turned fully up. The panel offers 4096 brightness levels, which helps when dimming the screen for night reading, and the water drop notch holds the 5MP selfie camera without cutting much into the screen.

Performance

The Unisoc T7100 is an octa-core chipset with two Cortex-A75 cores at 1.8 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.2 GHz. It is an entry-level processor, suited to calling, WhatsApp, UPI payments, browsing and video streaming. Heavy multitasking and demanding games should not be expected.

Memory comes as 3GB or 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM with 64GB of eMMC 5.0 storage. The 3GB model can add up to 5GB of virtual RAM, which helps keep a few more apps open but cannot match real RAM in speed. Storage can be expanded by up to 2 TB, which is useful because 64GB fills quickly with photos and apps.

Camera

The rear has a single 8MP main camera with an LED flash, and the front camera is 5MP. Video recording goes up to Full HD at 30 fps. This is a camera set for social media sharing, video calls and document photos in good light. Low-light photos and fine detail will be limited at this level.

A small extra is Audio Picture, which records a few seconds of sound along with a photo.

Battery & Charging

The 5000mAh battery is the standard for this segment, and the phone's low-power chipset and HD+ screen should help it last through a full day of typical use. The maker quotes up to 33.3 hours of music, 25 hours of navigation, 27.7 hours of calls and 11.5 hours of short videos. These are lab-condition figures and real use will be lower.

Charging is limited to 10W over USB Type-C. A full charge will take a long time, and this is among the clearest compromises of the phone. Type-C is still a welcome convenience over the older micro-USB port.

Software

The A100 runs Android 15 Go, a lighter version of Android built for entry-level hardware. It uses less memory and storage, which helps on a 3GB device. The headline feature is UltraLink, which lets the phone make free calls and send messages without a mobile network or data to other supported itel phones. That is useful in areas with weak coverage, but it works only with compatible itel devices. The official pages do not list an update commitment, so buyers should not count on long-term updates.

Connectivity

The phone supports 4G only, with no 5G and no NFC. It has dual Nano SIM slots, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, Bluetooth, and GPS with A-GPS. The 3.5mm headphone jack is retained, which suits buyers who use wired earphones. The IR blaster is a genuine highlight, letting the phone control a TV, AC or set-top box.

Audio

A single speaker with DTS Sound processing handles audio. A single speaker cannot deliver stereo separation, but DTS tuning aims for louder, clearer output for calls, videos and music.

Features Assessment

The features that matter most in daily use are the IR blaster, UltraLink offline calling, the headphone jack, memory expansion and the side fingerprint sensor. Together they cover practical needs better than the headline performance does. The military-grade durability tests add reassurance for rough use. Items such as virtual RAM and Audio Picture are minor extras.

Ease of Use

Android Go keeps the interface simple, which suits first-time smartphone users upgrading from a feature phone. A side fingerprint sensor makes unlocking quick, and the IR remote function removes the need for extra remotes. The Dynamic bar shows quick alerts without opening the notification shade. The phone is new and sold through offline retail stores, so there is not yet enough written buyer feedback online to describe long-term ownership experience.

Value for Money

The itel A100 launched at INR 6,799 for the 3GB + 64GB variant and INR 7,499 for the 4GB + 64GB variant. At this price the 90Hz display, Type-C port, IR blaster, headphone jack and durability claims are generous. The weak points are the 10W charging, the HD+ resolution and the basic camera. The A100 also sits close to other itel models, so compare it with the A100 Pro and the A100C if you want more memory or other changes. Buyers should check the local shop price, since offline pricing can vary.

Who Should Buy It?

First-time smartphone buyers upgrading from a feature phone, students who need a basic second phone, and elderly family members who want a simple, tough phone with a headphone jack. It also suits people who want an IR remote on their phone.

Who Should Consider Alternatives?

Buyers who play games, shoot photos regularly, want 5G, NFC payments, Full HD resolution or fast charging should look at phones in a higher price band. Those who want long software support should also look beyond entry-level phones.

Pros

  • 90Hz HD+ display with 180Hz touch sampling is smoother than most phones at this price.
  • Military-grade durability tested for heat, cold, humidity and drops from 1.2 metres.
  • IR blaster lets the phone work as a TV, AC and set-top box remote.
  • UltraLink allows free calls and messages without network or data between compatible itel phones.
  • 5000mAh battery with a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port.
  • Storage can be expanded by up to 2 TB.
  • Android 15 Go keeps the 3GB model usable for basic tasks.

Cons

  • Charging is limited to 10W, so a full charge is slow.
  • HD+ resolution and 400 nits brightness are modest in bright daylight.
  • Single 8MP rear camera with limited low-light ability.
  • No 5G, no NFC and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.
  • Entry-level Unisoc T7100 is not meant for demanding games or heavy multitasking.
  • UltraLink works only with compatible itel phones.
  • No water or dust resistance rating is listed.

Editorial Verdict

The itel A100 is a practical entry-level phone that concentrates on everyday needs rather than raw speed. Its 90Hz display, military-grade durability testing, IR blaster, UltraLink offline calling, headphone jack and expandable storage are useful in daily Indian use, and they are uncommon at a launch price of INR 6,799 to INR 7,499. The weak points are equally clear: 10W charging, HD+ resolution, a single 8MP rear camera, 4G-only connectivity and an entry-level Unisoc T7100 chipset. Over two to three years, expect it to remain suitable for calling, messaging, UPI and video streaming, while newer apps may slow down the 3GB model. No update commitment is listed, so security updates are uncertain. The phone is new and sold mainly offline, so we have not described long-term buyer experience. The 3.7 overall rating reflects strong value and features balanced against modest performance and cameras. It is best for first-time smartphone users, students and elderly users who need a tough, simple phone.
