Quick Summary
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the large flagship of Apple's 2024 range, with a 6.9-inch 120 Hz screen, a titanium body, the A18 Pro chip and a three-camera system that includes a 5x telephoto. It is a phone for people who want the best camera and the biggest screen Apple offered that year, and are happy to carry a heavy handset to get them.
It is now an older generation, sold through retailers rather than Apple's own store, and the 256 GB model is currently around ₹1,34,900.
Design & Build Quality
Titanium and glass give the Pro Max a premium feel that plastic-and-aluminium rivals can't copy. The textured matt back resists fingerprints, the frame is rigid and the finish looks rich in all four colours, from the subtle Natural Titanium to the warmer Desert Titanium.
The cost of that size is weight. At 227 g and 6.9 inches, it is a two-handed phone for many, and heavy in a shirt pocket. IP68 protection and the tougher Ceramic Shield front give reassurance for everyday knocks and monsoon splashes. The Camera Control button on the side is a novelty that takes a little time to love, but it makes shooting photos with one thumb easier.
Display
This is a seriously good screen. The 6.9-inch OLED is sharp, bright and smooth, with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate that makes scrolling and animations feel fluid. It stays easy to read in harsh midday sun, and HDR video looks vivid without being overdone.
The Always-On display, thin bezels and Dynamic Island keep everything clean. For watching films, editing photos or just reading on a commute, it is one of the best displays you could use on a phone.
Performance
The A18 Pro chip is quick enough that nothing feels like work. Apps launch instantly, multitasking is seamless, and demanding games run at high settings. There is plenty of headroom to keep it feeling fast for years.
Heavy use, such as long gaming sessions or extended video recording, can warm the phone noticeably, which is typical of powerful phones in this class. Apple Intelligence adds writing tools and a smarter Siri on top.
Camera
The camera system is the reason to buy a Pro Max. The 48 MP main camera captures detailed, natural-looking photos in nearly any light, and the 48 MP ultra-wide is sharp enough to use for macro shots as well as sweeping landscapes. The 5x telephoto is a standout, bringing distant subjects close with usable detail, which helps at concerts, weddings and wildlife.
Video is class-leading, with 4K Dolby Vision up to 120 fps, Action mode and options that suit serious creators. A few owners notice softness in the range between the 2x and 5x zoom positions, but for most people the camera is a clear strength.
Battery Life & Charging
Battery life is a major strength, with Apple rating video playback at up to 33 hours. In real use, a heavy day of calls, maps, photos and streaming still ends with charge to spare, and light users can stretch beyond a day.
There is no charger in the box, and charging speed is merely decent. A 20 W or higher adapter reaches about half a charge in around 30 minutes, and MagSafe wireless charging tops out at 25 W with a suitable adapter.
Software & Updates
iOS 18 at launch is smooth, polished and easy to use, and the Pro Max supports Apple Intelligence for writing help and image tools. The Action button and Camera Control can be tailored to your habits. Apple's reputation for supporting its phones for a long time helps the long-term value, although the company does not publish a fixed update promise for this model.
Connectivity & Audio
Wi-Fi 7, 5G and Bluetooth 5.3 keep the connections strong, and the dual eSIM support is helpful for travellers and for people with two numbers. The USB-C port runs at USB 3 speeds, so moving large video files is much quicker than on cheaper iPhones. MagSafe makes mounts and wireless accessories easy to use.
Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos playback sound good through earphones, and the four studio-quality microphones make recorded video and voice notes clean and clear.
What Buyers Say
Buyers most often praise the camera, especially the zoom, the speed of the phone, the large bright display and the premium feel. Many say it is worth the money and that it is a big step up from an older iPhone. The most common complaints are the phone getting warm during long use or charging, the charging speed feeling slow for a phone this expensive, and the weight. A few buyers report camera softness at some zoom distances or occasional software glitches, but opinion is very positive overall.
Features Assessment
Almost every feature is a useful one. The 5x telephoto, the 120 Hz screen, Camera Control, USB 3 speeds, MagSafe, Face ID, satellite emergency features and Apple Intelligence all add something real. Fast charging is the one area where it does not lead.
Ease of Use
The big screen helps reading and typing, but reaching the top corner needs two hands or the reachability gesture. Face ID works reliably, the Action button is configurable, and the iPhone's menus will feel familiar to anyone coming from another iPhone. Setting up a new phone from an old one is quick.
Value for Money
The 256 GB model is currently around ₹1,34,900. The 512 GB and 1 TB versions are out of stock at the shops checked, so they carry no price.
This is a premium purchase, and Apple has since launched newer Pro models. If you can find a good discount on this one, the camera, screen and battery life remain strong enough to justify it for people who want a big, capable phone. If the saving over a newer model is small, the newer one is the safer pick.
Who Should Buy It?
Photography and video enthusiasts, content creators, heavy multitaskers and anyone who wants the largest iPhone screen of its generation will be pleased with it. It is also a good upgrade from an iPhone 11, 12 or 13.
Who Should Consider Alternatives?
Buyers who prefer a small, light phone should look at a compact iPhone. Those who want the fastest charging, or who are simply after the best value for money, are better served by a cheaper iPhone or a newer model bought at a similar price.

Editorial Verdict
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is a powerful, polished flagship that remains very capable even as newer models arrive. Its triple-camera system, with a highly useful 5x telephoto and excellent video, is among the best you can carry. The 6.9-inch 120 Hz screen is bright, smooth and a pleasure to use, the A18 Pro chip is quick, and battery life easily covers a heavy day. Titanium and glass give it a premium feel, and IP68 protection, USB 3 speeds, Wi-Fi 7, MagSafe and satellite emergency features add to the package. The compromises are size and weight, no charger in the box, only average charging speed, and some warming under demanding use. Creators, photography fans and people who simply want the largest, most capable iPhone of its generation will find little to dislike. Anyone who prefers a small phone, or who can buy a newer model for a similar amount, should think twice. It is a strong choice when bought at a sensible discount.
