VoLTE
VoLTE, or Voice over LTE, lets phone calls travel over a mobile operator's 4G network.

VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE. It is a way of making phone calls over a mobile operator's 4G LTE data network, instead of the older 2G or 3G voice networks. It is based on standards from the 3GPP, the body that defines mobile network technology worldwide.
How it works
In a VoLTE call, your voice is turned into small digital packets and sent over the LTE network, using a system that operators call IMS. The phone stays on LTE during the call, so its data connection does not have to drop to an older network. Calls usually connect faster, and the voice codec can carry a wider range of sound, which is often called HD voice.
What it needs
- A phone with VoLTE support for that operator's network.
- An operator that has switched VoLTE on for its network and for the SIM.
- HD voice quality also needs the other person's phone and network to support it.
What it does not promise
VoLTE is not a data plan, and it does not make internet browsing faster. It concerns calls only. Call quality still depends on signal strength, and a phone with the feature can still fall back to an older voice network if the operator does not support VoLTE for that model.
