Quick Summary
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is Apple's toughest and most capable smartwatch, built for people who swim, dive, hike and run seriously. It comes only in a 49 mm titanium case with GPS and cellular, at ₹1,09,900 with an Alpine Loop, Trail Loop or Ocean Band and ₹1,24,900 with the Titanium Milanese Loop. It is superb at almost everything it attempts. The compromises are the very high price, the need for an iPhone and a battery that is excellent for a smartwatch but still needs regular charging.
Design & Build Quality
The Ultra 4 looks and feels like serious equipment. The 49 mm case is Grade 5 titanium, the screen is protected by flat sapphire crystal, and it is built to a military-standard test regime covering altitude, temperature extremes, shock and vibration. At 63 g it is not light, but it is far from clumsy on the wrist, and the straps cover a wide range of wrist sizes from 130 to 210 mm.
The customisable Action button, Digital Crown and side button are meant to be easy to use with gloves or wet hands, and the watch is built for conditions that would overwhelm a normal smartwatch: 100 m water resistance, dive capability to 40 m and operation from -20°C to 55°C on the wrist. Natural and Black finishes are available.
Display
The always-on LTPO3 OLED screen is bright enough to read in direct Indian sunlight, with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and it dims right down to 1 nit for use in the dark. The text is crisp at 326 ppi and the flat sapphire glass resists scratches from rocks, doors and accidental knocks.
Performance & Software
The Apple S11 chip keeps the interface fluid, and apps open and respond without noticeable delay. The watch has 64 GB of storage for music, podcasts and offline maps, and it supports Siri powered by Apple Intelligence for quick voice commands. Everything sits within watchOS, one of the most polished smartwatch platforms available.
The limit is compatibility. The watch pairs only with an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 27 or later, so it is not an option for Android users.
Health & Fitness Tracking
The health toolkit is comprehensive. It includes an ECG app, blood oxygen readings, wrist temperature, heart rate alerts, irregular rhythm notifications and sleep tracking with sleep stages, sleep score and sleep apnoea notifications. Cycle tracking, a Vitals app and medication reminders round out a very broad package.
For sport, the Ultra 4 is in a league of its own. It handles pool and open-water swimming with detailed metrics, offline maps with route creation and Backtrack, running power and form metrics, cycling and multisport modes, and a recreational dive computer for depths up to 40 m. Precision dual-frequency GPS keeps tracking accurate in cities and on trails. Safety features include Fall Detection, Crash Detection, Emergency SOS and a loud siren.
Battery Life & Charging
Apple quotes up to 50 hours of normal use, up to 18 hours of workout tracking and up to 25 hours in the extended workout mode, with a low-power mode stretching to 84 hours. In practice that means a comfortable two days of normal use, which is respectable, though shorter than the multi-week battery life of some rugged sports watches.
Fast charging is a strength: about 80% in roughly 45 minutes, or 15 minutes for up to 18 hours of normal use. A long weekend trek will need planning, but daily use is hassle-free.
Connectivity & Calling
The Ultra 4 supports 5G RedCap and LTE, so you can take calls, stream music and send messages without your phone nearby, which is very useful on a run, a swim or a ride. This does need an active cellular plan, and the watch is sold only in the GPS + Cellular version. Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5.3 are adequate, and a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip assists with precise device finding.
The speakers and microphones are good enough for calls, and the three-microphone array is designed to cut wind noise.
Features Assessment
Almost every feature is useful rather than decorative: contactless payments with Apple Pay, offline maps, a flashlight, Check In safety sharing, and a dive computer. The customisable Action button turns the watch into a one-press tool for starting workouts or marking waypoints. The one clear gap is the iPhone-only restriction, which limits the audience.
Ease of Use
The interface is intuitive for anyone familiar with an iPhone, and setup is quick by pairing the two devices. Navigation uses the Digital Crown, touchscreen and Action button, and gestures such as a double tap help when your other hand is busy. Accessibility support is excellent, with VoiceOver, Zoom and AssistiveTouch. Charging is a simple magnetic puck connected by USB-C.
Value for Money
At ₹1,09,900 with the Alpine Loop, Trail Loop or Ocean Band and ₹1,24,900 with the Titanium Milanese Loop, the Ultra 4 is one of the most expensive smartwatches you can buy in India. The price is hard to justify for casual users who mainly want notifications and step counts. For athletes, divers and adventurers who will use the depth gauge, offline maps and cellular connection, it is a one-device solution that replaces several.
The Milanese Loop adds ₹15,000 for a more refined look, but the sportier straps are the better match for what the watch is built to do.

Editorial Verdict
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is the most complete rugged smartwatch for iPhone users. It is built from titanium and sapphire, has a very bright always-on display, and brings together serious swimming, diving, running and navigation features with a deep health toolkit. Cellular connectivity means it can handle calls, music and safety alerts without a phone, and the siren, Fall Detection and Crash Detection add real peace of mind outdoors. The Apple S11 chip and watchOS keep everything quick and polished, and fast charging makes the two-day battery easy to live with over time. The trade-offs are plain. It works only with an iPhone, it costs far more than most watches, it needs a cellular plan to use its connected features, and a battery that lasts about two days will feel short to anyone used to rugged watches that run for weeks. The big case also suits larger wrists best. For athletes, adventurers and iPhone owners who want one watch for everything, it is excellent and should stay supported and useful for years. For casual users, it is far more watch than they need. We rate it 4.5 out of 5.
