The ASUS TUF Gaming VG279Q5R is a speed-first monitor and it is honest about it.
See full rating breakdown →Quick Summary
The ASUS TUF Gaming VG279Q5R is a 27-inch Full HD gaming monitor that chases speed over sharpness. A 200 Hz Fast IPS panel with 1 ms GTG response is the headline, and at around ₹13,500 it brings that speed to a budget most gamers can afford. If you play fast shooters on a PC with a modest graphics card, it is a very sensible pick. If you want a crisp desktop for work, the Full HD resolution on a 27-inch screen is its limit.
Design & Build Quality
The monitor follows the usual TUF look: black, slightly angular, with slim bezels on three sides. It weighs 4.3 kg with the stand and 3.3 kg without, so it is easy to carry and mount. Build quality feels solid for the price, and the matte finish keeps fingerprints and reflections in check.
The stand is basic. It tilts and nothing else; there is no height adjustment, swivel or pivot. The VESA pattern is 75 × 75 mm, which is smaller than the 100 × 100 mm many monitor arms are labelled for, so check that an arm includes the 75 mm pattern before you buy one.
Display Quality
A 27-inch Full HD panel is a trade-off. Games look clean and the high frame rates are easy to hit on mid-range graphics cards, but text and fine detail are noticeably softer than on a QHD monitor of the same size. If you sit close or do a lot of reading and spreadsheet work, you will see the pixel structure.
Colour is good for a gaming monitor: 100% sRGB coverage, wide viewing angles and the usual IPS consistency. It is a capable screen for general use, video and casual photo edits, though not for colour-critical work. Brightness is 300 nits, fine for a normal room but modest for a bright one, and the HDR10 support is a compatibility tick rather than a visual upgrade.
Gaming Performance
The 200 Hz refresh rate is the reason to buy this monitor. Motion is fluid, the 1 ms GTG response keeps blur low, and Extreme Low Motion Blur is there for players who want even cleaner motion at the cost of some brightness. Adaptive sync works through AMD FreeSync and VESA AdaptiveSync, which keeps tearing away on most modern graphics cards.
ASUS lists 200 Hz on both HDMI and DisplayPort, so you are not forced to use a specific cable to reach the full speed, which makes setup with consoles and PCs more relaxed. The box includes a DisplayPort cable. GameVisual presets, Shadow Boost and GamePlus overlays are available but optional.
Connectivity & Ports
The port selection is simple: two HDMI 2.0, one DisplayPort 1.4 and a headphone jack. There is no USB hub and no USB-C input, so this is a monitor for plugging into a PC or console and nothing else. For most gaming desks that is enough.
Audio
The built-in speakers are two 2 W units. They will handle system sounds and the occasional video, but they are tinny and have no real bass. Gamers will want headphones, and the headphone jack on the monitor makes that easy.
Eye Care & Power
TÜV Low Blue Light and TÜV Flicker-free certifications mean the backlight does not flicker and the colour can be warmed for evening use. That matters when a monitor is on for many hours a day. The monitor uses an external power adapter and draws under 21 W in use.
Features Assessment
The features that matter for the money, high refresh rate, fast response, adaptive sync and eye care, are all present and well implemented. AI Visual and other extras are nice but not essential. What is missing is the usual list at this price: a flexible stand, a USB hub, USB-C and loud speakers.
Ease of Use
Setup is quick and the menu is easy to navigate. DisplayWidget Center lets you change settings from Windows with a mouse, which is easier than pressing the small buttons on the monitor. Wall mounting is straightforward if you use the 75 × 75 mm pattern.
Value for Money
At around ₹13,500 the VG279Q5R is a lot of refresh rate for the money. You are paying for speed, not for resolution, and it is a good deal if you want 200 Hz without spending QHD money. If you can stretch the budget, a QHD monitor will give you a sharper 27-inch picture. Prices move often, so check the current listing before you buy.
Who Should Buy It?
Competitive gamers on a budget, console players who want a fast panel and anyone upgrading from a 60 Hz or 75 Hz monitor will get the most from it. It also suits a student desk or a shared family PC where the extra size matters more than ultimate sharpness.
Who Should Consider Alternatives?
If you do a lot of reading, coding or photo work, look at a QHD or 4K monitor. If you need a height-adjustable stand, USB-C or a USB hub, consider a pricier model or budget for a monitor arm.

Editorial Verdict
The ASUS TUF Gaming VG279Q5R is a speed-first monitor and it is honest about it. The 200 Hz Fast IPS panel with 1 ms response makes fast games feel smooth, adaptive sync keeps the picture tear-free, and TÜV flicker-free and low blue light certifications are welcome for long sessions. Colour is good for the class, and the full 200 Hz works over both HDMI and DisplayPort, which makes setup easy. The trade-offs are clear. Full HD stretched across 27 inches is soft for reading and detailed work, the stand only tilts, the speakers are basic, and there is no USB hub or USB-C. If your priority is competitive gaming on a mid-range PC or a console without a big budget, it does the job well and keeps the graphics card from working too hard. If you want a sharper desktop for study or work as well, a QHD monitor is a better fit. For fast-paced gaming on a budget, it is an easy recommendation.
