Quick Summary

The POCO C71 is POCO's most basic phone, a 4G-only model for people who want a big 120 Hz screen, a large battery and a clean, recent Android version at a very low price. It does the simple things well, and its update promise is better than most phones at this level. The trade-offs are a modest processor, a slow 15 W charger, no 5G and a camera built for daylight snaps. At about Rs 8,999 for the 4 GB + 64 GB version, it is a dependable first phone and a good second phone, but not a phone for heavy use.

Design & Build Quality

The C71 is large but light for its size. It is 8.26 mm thick and 193 g, so it feels a little easier to carry than many 6.88-inch phones. The Split Grid back gives it a clean, fashionable look, and the three finishes (Cool Blue, Power Black and Desert Gold) cover most tastes. The side-mounted fingerprint reader is quick and easy to find.

IP52 protection covers dust and light splashes. That is enough for a rainy commute but not for a dip in water. The phone is a plastic-built budget model, so a case is a sensible addition.

Display

For a phone this cheap, the display is a strong point. The 6.88-inch panel runs at 120 Hz, which makes scrolling and swiping feel smoother than the 60 Hz screens common at this price. It reaches 600 nits in high-brightness mode, so it stays readable outdoors in most conditions, and the Wet Touch feature helps when your fingers are damp. TÜV Rheinland certification for eye comfort is a welcome extra for people who read on their phones in the evening.

The weakness is sharpness, since HD+ resolution stretched over such a large screen shows softer text and image detail. Videos still look fine from normal viewing distance.

Everyday Performance

The Unisoc T7250 is an entry-level chip. It is enough for calls, messaging, UPI payments, YouTube and simple browsing, but it slows down when you switch between several apps or open heavy websites. Games with demanding graphics are better avoided, and light games run at low settings. Storage is eMMC 5.1, which is slower than the UFS storage used on better phones, so app installs and updates take longer.

The 6 GB + 128 GB version gives more room to breathe, and the microSD slot, which takes cards up to 1 TB, is a practical help for photos, videos and music.

Camera

The 32 MP rear camera produces usable pictures in daylight, with enough detail for social media and family photos. In dim light, images lose detail quickly and look soft. The 8 MP front camera is fine for video calls and quick selfies. Video recording stops at 1080p at 30 fps on both cameras, so the phone is a better fit for casual clips than for serious video work.

Battery Life & Charging

A 5,200 mAh battery is one of the largest at this price, and it comfortably lasts a full day of ordinary use, with light users stretching it further. Charging is the soft spot: the phone and its box charger support only 15 W, so a full charge takes a long while. It is a phone to plug in overnight and forget.

Software & Connectivity

The C71 launches with Android 15, which is a fresh start for a phone at this price. POCO promises two years of Android updates and four years of security updates, a better commitment than most budget phones make. The software is simple, with a few extra apps and a plain interface.

It is a 4G phone with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2 and a headphone jack, and it supports the common Indian 4G bands. There is no 5G and no NFC, so it will not benefit from faster networks as they grow. The sound comes from a single top-firing speaker, which is enough for calls and short videos but thin for music.

What Buyers Say

Buyers broadly describe the C71 as good value for money, praising its looks, its screen and its smooth everyday behaviour for basic use. Many see it as a good phone for parents or for first-time users. The complaints that repeat are narrower: the speaker is weaker than they expected, and some buyers report a phone locked to one operator's SIM for an initial period when bought through a particular offer. A few mention uneven Wi-Fi speeds and limited video quality. Most reviews are positive, with the praise centred on price and simplicity.

Features Assessment

The useful features are all here: a 120 Hz screen, a big battery, a microSD slot, a headphone jack and a clear software update promise. What is missing is 5G, NFC, stereo sound and fast charging. For the target buyer these are fair omissions at this price, and the features that are present are the ones that matter in daily use.

Ease of Use

The phone is simple to set up and use. The side fingerprint reader is quick, the interface is uncluttered and the large screen is easy on the eyes, though one-handed use is difficult. The long battery life means little daily attention.

Value for Money

The 4 GB + 64 GB version is listed at about Rs 8,999 on the main Flipkart listing at the time of writing. The 6 GB + 128 GB version has no current in-stock price on the shops we checked, so we do not quote one. For that money, the C71 gives a bigger, smoother screen and a stronger update promise than most rivals, though competitors in this band sometimes offer 5G or faster charging. If your use is calls, chats, videos and payments, it is an easy choice for its price. Heavier users should spend more.

Who Should Buy It?

It suits parents and elders, first-time smartphone users, students who need a basic phone, and anyone who wants a cheap, large-screen second phone with a long-lasting battery and clear software support.

Who Should Consider Alternatives?

Buyers who want 5G, NFC payments, a sharper screen, fast charging or smooth gaming should look at phones in the next price band. People who shoot a lot of low-light photos or video should also look elsewhere.

Editorial Verdict

The POCO C71 is a plain, practical phone that knows its job: to give first-time buyers and parents a large screen, a long-lasting battery and up-to-date software at a very low price. Its 120 Hz display is the best feature, making everyday scrolling feel smoother than the price suggests, and the update promise is stronger than most phones in this segment can claim. The compromises are honest ones. The processor and storage are slow, the camera is only fair in daylight and weak in the dark, charging is slow, and the lack of 5G and NFC means it is built for the present more than the future. The single speaker is also thin. If your needs are calls, messages, videos and UPI payments, the C71 covers them without fuss. If you play games, shoot a lot of video or want to keep a phone for years of faster networks, it is worth stepping up to a better phone.
