Quick Summary

The vivo X Fold6 is vivo's most ambitious phone for Indian buyers: a book-style foldable with an 8.02-inch main screen, a 200 MP main camera and a big 6,900 mAh battery. It is sold in a single 12 GB and 512 GB version at about ₹2.2 lakh. The strength is how complete it feels for a foldable, with water resistance, a flagship chip and a serious camera system. The compromise is the price, which is high even among foldables.

Design & Build Quality

Foldables usually ask you to accept bulk, and the X Fold6 limits that. It is 4.40 mm thin when open and 9.40 mm when closed, and it weighs 228 g. That is heavy for a phone but light for a device that carries two screens and a 6,900 mAh battery. The frame is metal with rounded 2.5D edges, the back is glass, and a colour-matched ring frames the camera module. It comes in Nebula Teal and Prism Black.

The standout is protection. vivo rates it IPX8 and IPX9 for water and IP5X for dust, and claims the hinge survives 1,000 folds in fresh water. Many foldables are less well sealed, so this one feels less fragile than the category suggests. Even so, a foldable still needs gentler handling than a regular slab phone, and vivo asks owners not to peel the pre-applied film on the main screen.

Display

The inner 8.02-inch AMOLED panel is the reason to buy a foldable, and it is a good one. At 2504 × 2312 pixels it is sharp, it runs at 120 Hz, and local peak brightness reaches 5,000 nits. The almost-square shape suits reading, spreadsheets and split-screen work better than a standard tablet ratio. The outer 6.51-inch cover screen is a full-size phone display, so you can use the phone closed for quick tasks like calls and messages without opening it.

Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition is a flagship-class 3 nm chip tuned by vivo and MediaTek for multitasking. With 12 GB of fast LPDDR5X Ultra memory, UFS 4.1 storage and the option of extended RAM, it should handle heavy apps, long editing sessions and split-screen work without hesitation. This is the right kind of horsepower for a device built to run several apps at once. Storage is fixed at 512 GB and cannot be expanded, but that is generous for most people.

Camera

Camera quality is where the X Fold6 pulls away from many rivals. The 200 MP ZEISS main camera has stabilisation and a wide f/1.68 aperture for good light gathering, while the 50 MP telephoto uses a ZEISS APO lens with stabilisation for sharp distant shots. The 50 MP ultra-wide completes a versatile trio. Portrait mode offers several focal lengths from 23 mm to 100 mm, which gives photographers real choice. Video goes up to 8K. Both the cover and inner screens have 20 MP selfie cameras, so video calls work whether the phone is open or shut.

Battery Life & Charging

A 6,900 mAh battery in a foldable is unusually large. vivo says it lets the phone run multitasking workloads longer than the previous X Fold5. Charging is wired at 80 W, and the charger comes in the box. There is no wireless charging mentioned in the official specifications, so you will rely on the cable.

Software & Updates

The phone runs OriginOS 7 on Android 17. The foldable-specific software is where it earns its keep. Origin Workbench keeps one main task and four supporting tasks on screen, multi-split screen runs up to four apps together, and AI Cross-App Drag lets you drag text or an image from one app into another to extract text, translate or save a contact. Desktop Mode and a Folder Widget add more computer-like habits. Minor Mode is a useful addition for families who share the phone.

Connectivity & Audio

Dual Nano-SIM support allows two active 5G connections, with a wide set of Indian bands. Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi up to 6 GHz and NavIC support round out the list. There is no headphone jack, so wired audio needs a digital USB Type-C pair or an adapter. There is no eSIM listed on the official specification page.

Features Assessment

The features that matter are the ones that make a foldable usable: strong water resistance, a robust multitasking layer, a flagship camera system and a large battery. The IR blaster, Bluetooth 6.0 and NavIC are practical extras. The missing pieces are wireless charging and expandable storage, which buyers at this price may expect.

Ease of Use

The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is quick and easy to reach whether the phone is open or closed. Slightly folding the phone or swiping up with three fingers launches multi-split screen, and the Workbench gesture opens from the bottom corner. There is a learning curve, but the gestures are logical and the software explains itself.

Value for Money

The X Fold6 costs ₹2,19,999 for its only version, and the same price is shown on vivo's own store, Amazon.in and Flipkart. That is serious money, so the question is whether a foldable fits your life. If you read, work and multitask on your phone every day, the large inner screen, the strong cameras and the water resistance deliver something a regular phone cannot. If you mostly make calls, scroll social media and take pictures, a flagship slab phone at a far lower price will serve you just as well. There is no cheaper storage option to step down to.

Who Should Buy It?

The X Fold6 suits professionals, students and creators who want a pocketable tablet, and anyone who values water resistance and camera quality in a premium device. It is for people who will genuinely use two apps side by side every day.

Who Should Consider Alternatives?

Buyers who want the lowest possible price or a lighter phone should look at regular flagships. People who prefer wireless charging, eSIM or expandable storage should check those features before buying, and anyone who is rough on phones may prefer a non-folding design.

Editorial Verdict

The vivo X Fold6 shows how far foldables have come. It is slim for a book-style phone, protected against water and dust better than most rivals, and powered by a flagship Dimensity 9500 chip with fast memory and storage. The 8.02-inch inner screen is bright and sharp, the cover display works like a normal phone, and the multitasking software makes the extra space genuinely useful for work, study and entertainment. The 200 MP main camera, the stabilised APO telephoto and 8K video make it a serious camera phone for a foldable. The 6,900 mAh battery is large for this category and the 80 W charger is included. The compromises are plain. There is no wireless charging, no eSIM and no expandable storage, the phone is not light, and it remains a foldable that deserves careful handling. It is also priced at the very top of the market. For people who will use a big screen every day and want a camera that does not compromise, it is an impressive device. For everyone else, a regular flagship delivers most of the experience for much less.
