Quick Summary

The OPPO A6x 5G is OPPO's entry-level 5G phone built for people who want long battery life, a tough-enough body and a simple, dependable experience. Its 6,500 mAh battery, 45 W charging, IP64 splash protection and a 120 Hz screen cover the basics that matter most to first-time smartphone buyers, students and older family members.

The compromises are equally clear. The screen is only HD+, the single 13 MP rear camera is basic, and the Dimensity 6300 chip is built for everyday tasks rather than speed. At current prices of roughly ₹20,000 to ₹27,000, those limits weigh heavily on its value.

Design & Build Quality

OPPO has kept the A6x simple and practical. At 212 g and 8.6 mm thick it is a substantial phone, but the weight is spread evenly and it feels solid rather than cheap. The Ice Blue finish uses layered matte and textured effects that catch the light nicely and hide fingerprints, while Olive Green is a calmer, earthier option.

The IP64 rating is the useful part of the build story. It means the phone is fully sealed against dust and can handle rain, splashes at the sink or a spilled glass of water, though it should not be dunked. A protective case comes in the box, which is sensible for a phone many buyers will use for years. There is no claim of toughened glass on the front, so a screen guard is a worthwhile purchase.

Display

The 6.75-inch LCD runs at up to 120 Hz, so menus and social feeds scroll smoothly, and a 1,125-nit high-brightness mode keeps the screen usable outdoors. Outdoor Mode and Glove Touch are thoughtful additions for riders and outdoor workers.

The weak point is sharpness. At 720 × 1570 pixels and 256 ppi, text and photos look visibly softer than on the Full HD screens that are common at this price, and the difference is noticeable when reading small print or watching high-quality video. Contrast is typical of LCD panels, so dark scenes look washed out. For calls, WhatsApp and YouTube it is perfectly adequate; for anyone who spends hours watching content, it is a compromise.

Everyday Performance

The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 is a familiar budget 5G chip, and it handles calling, messaging, UPI payments, browsing and video streaming without fuss. OPPO's software tuning, including its AI GameBoost and fluency claims, helps keep the interface responsive in normal use.

Push it harder and the limits appear. Heavy games run at modest settings, app switching slows down with several apps open, and the 4 GB variants in particular have little headroom, with older LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage. The 6 GB + 128 GB model is the one to choose if you plan to keep the phone for more than two years. A microSD slot makes running out of space less of a worry.

Camera Performance

Photography is the A6x's weakest area. The single 13 MP rear camera with autofocus takes acceptable photos in good daylight, and is fine for documents, product photos and social media posts. There is no ultra-wide, macro or telephoto lens, and low-light results are limited, so evening and indoor photos lose detail quickly.

Video tops out at 1080p, with 60 fps available only on the 6 GB model. The 5 MP front camera is basic and suited to video calls rather than sharp selfies. OPPO's AI editing tools, such as AI Eraser and AI Perfect Shot, are genuinely useful for cleaning up photos after the fact, but they cannot make up for the hardware.

Battery Life & Charging

Battery life is where the A6x earns its place. A 6,500 mAh battery paired with an efficient chip and a lower-resolution screen easily lasts a full day of heavy use and often stretches into a second day for lighter users. OPPO's own figure of about 22 hours of online video playback supports that.

45 W SUPERVOOC charging is quick for this class, and the charger is included in the box. The phone also works with common PD and PPS chargers at lower speeds. Reverse wired charging through an OTG cable is a small but handy extra for topping up earbuds or a friend's phone.

Software

The phone runs ColorOS 15 on Android 15. The interface is clean and familiar, with useful extras such as theft protection that can lock the phone if it is snatched, and a set of AI photo tools. Cell Broadcast emergency alerts are supported.

The update promise is short: two years of Android updates and three years of security patches. That is below what several rivals now offer, and buyers who keep phones for four years or more will be running outdated software well before the battery gives up.

Connectivity & Audio

Dual 5G with dual VoLTE works well on Indian networks, and Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4 cover everyday needs. There is no NFC. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is a welcome rarity, making it easy to use wired earphones, and Bluetooth support for LDAC and aptX HD is generous for a budget phone. GPS performance should be reliable with support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS.

Features Assessment

The most useful features are the practical ones: the big battery, the charger and case in the box, the IP64 rating, the headphone jack and the microSD slot. Theft protection is a valuable addition for city users. AI features are helpful for editing photos but need an internet connection and sometimes an account login. The 48-month fluency claim is based on lab testing and applies only to the 128 GB models.

Ease of Use

This is an easy phone to live with. Setup is quick, ColorOS is intuitive, the side-mounted fingerprint sensor and face unlock are convenient, and the big screen with Outdoor Mode is easy to read. Glove Touch helps in winter and on two-wheelers. The size and weight make one-handed use tricky for smaller hands.

Value for Money

At the time of writing, the lowest current prices are ₹19,999 for 4 GB + 64 GB, ₹20,999 for 4 GB + 128 GB and ₹26,999 for 6 GB + 128 GB. At these prices the A6x is expensive for what it offers: an HD+ screen, a single basic camera and an entry-level chip are hard to justify when the same money can buy Full HD displays and better cameras.

If you buy it, the 4 GB + 128 GB model offers the best balance of storage and price, while the 6 GB model adds 60 fps video and more breathing room but costs noticeably more. Battery, durability and the in-box charger are the main reasons to consider it.

Who Should Buy It?

  • Buyers who prioritise battery life above everything else, such as delivery riders, sales staff and travellers.
  • Parents buying a simple, splash-resistant phone for an elderly family member or a student.
  • People who still use wired earphones and want a headphone jack.
  • Users who need expandable storage for photos, videos and documents.

Who Should Consider Alternatives?

  • Anyone who watches a lot of video, who will benefit from a Full HD or AMOLED screen at this price.
  • Photography fans, who should look for phones with a 50 MP main camera and an ultra-wide lens.
  • Gamers and heavy multitaskers, who need a faster chip and more RAM.
  • Buyers who want long software support, as two Android updates is a short commitment.

Pros

  • Excellent battery life, with 6,500 mAh lasting well past a day
  • Fast 45 W charging, with the charger included in the box
  • IP64 dust and splash protection, reassuring in rain and dust
  • Smooth 120 Hz display, bright outdoors with Outdoor Mode
  • Headphone jack and microSD slot, both rare at this level
  • Useful theft protection, locks the phone if snatched

Cons

  • Low-resolution HD+ screen, visibly soft for reading and video
  • Basic single rear camera, with weak low-light results
  • Entry-level performance, struggles with heavy games and multitasking
  • Short software support, two Android updates and three years of patches
  • Poor value at current prices, rivals offer sharper screens and better cameras
  • No NFC, so tap-to-pay is not available

Editorial Verdict

The OPPO A6x 5G is a phone built around endurance and simplicity. Its 6,500 mAh battery comfortably lasts beyond a day, 45 W charging with the charger in the box keeps top-ups quick, and IP64 protection means rain and dust are not a worry. The 120 Hz screen is smooth and bright enough outdoors, ColorOS is easy to use, and practical touches such as the headphone jack, microSD slot and theft protection make it a sensible choice for less demanding users. The trade-offs are significant. The HD+ display looks soft next to Full HD rivals, the single 13 MP rear camera is basic, and the Dimensity 6300 with older memory leaves little room for heavy games or busy multitasking, especially on the 4 GB versions. Over two or three years the battery should hold up well, but two Android updates and three years of security patches mean the software will age quickly. It suits students, older family members and anyone who mainly calls, messages, pays and streams, and who values battery life above screen quality or photography. Buyers who care about cameras, gaming or long-term support should look elsewhere. The overall rating of 3.5 reflects strong battery and practicality held back by a dated screen, a weak camera and value that does not match its asking price.
