Quick Summary

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are the same phone in two sizes, and Apple has built them around the A16 Bionic chip, a 48 MP main camera, the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port. They are no longer the newest iPhones, and Apple India no longer sells them directly, but they remain easy to buy from large Flipkart sellers at a little under the Rs 70,000 mark for the 128 GB model. The smaller phone suits one-hand use; the Plus is for people who want a big screen and a battery that lasts well beyond a day. The compromise is a shorter feature list than the newer models.

Design & Build Quality

Both phones use an aluminium frame with a colour-infused glass back and a Ceramic Shield front. The back glass is colour-infused, so the tint runs through the glass itself. The five colours (black, blue, green, yellow and pink) are muted, so even the pink is easy to carry in an office.

The iPhone 15 is the easier phone to live with. At 171 g and 71.6 mm wide it slips into a pocket and can be used with a thumb. The Plus weighs 201 g and is clearly a two-handed phone for some tasks, but it is still lighter than many large Android phones. Both are rated IP68, so monsoon splashes, a glass of water or a dusty commute are not a worry. The side button, volume keys and Ring/Silent switch are where iPhone users expect them, and the USB-C port finally lets one cable charge the phone, a laptop and many accessories.

Display

Both screens are OLED panels with the Dynamic Island cut-out, True Tone and wide P3 colour. The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch screen and the Plus a 6.7-inch one, and both share the same sharpness of 460 ppi, so text and photos look equally crisp on either. Outdoor brightness is a strong point: Apple states up to 2,000 nits peak outdoors, which helps in harsh midday sun. Video lovers also get Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG playback.

What the screens leave out is anything fancy in refresh rate. Apple does not advertise a high-refresh display on these two, so scrolling is pleasant but not as fluid as on pricier iPhones or many Android phones in this price range. For most people, accuracy and brightness matter more.

Everyday Performance

The A16 Bionic has two performance and four efficiency cores and a 5-core GPU, and it remains fast enough that the phones do not feel dated in daily use. Apps open quickly, switching between them is smooth, and demanding games run well. Because Apple controls both the chip and the software, the experience stays consistent, with few of the slowdowns people complain about on Android phones that look strong on paper.

Storage starts at 128 GB and goes to 512 GB. That base size is workable for most, but anyone who shoots a lot of 4K video should look at 256 GB so the phone does not fill up within a year.

Camera

The 48 MP main camera is the headline upgrade over older iPhones. It saves 24 MP photos by default and can shoot 48 MP when you want more detail, and it uses sensor-shift stabilisation to keep low-light shots steady. A 2x telephoto option is created by cropping the centre of the sensor, which keeps the quality high at that zoom level, and the 12 MP ultra-wide camera covers a 120° field of view for group photos and rooms.

Video is a strength. You can record 4K at up to 60 frames per second, including Dolby Vision HDR, use Action mode for steady walking shots and Cinematic mode for a soft background effect. The 12 MP front camera with autofocus is also better than most selfie cameras at this price and records 4K too. There is no dedicated long-range zoom lens, so distant subjects soon lose detail.

Battery Life & Charging

Apple rates the iPhone 15 for up to 20 hours of video playback and the Plus for up to 26 hours, and the larger phone is the one to pick if battery anxiety is your main concern. Charging is the weaker side. A charger is not in the box, so you must buy a 20 W or stronger USB-C adapter if you do not already own one, and even then Apple claims only 50% in around 30 minutes. MagSafe wireless charging up to 15 W is available with accessories sold separately.

Software & Connectivity

iOS is clean, quick and well protected, and the phones can use satellite-based Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance where available. Both phones support 5G, dual SIM with nano-SIM plus eSIM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and second-generation Ultra Wideband. The Apple India page lists wide coverage of Indian 5G and 4G bands, so network support is not a concern.

Features Assessment

Face ID is quick and reliable, Apple Pay and NFC work with tap-to-pay, and Crash Detection is a practical safety feature. Useful but not new are Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos playback. Unlike some Android phones there is no 3.5 mm jack or microSD slot.

Ease of Use

This is where iPhones keep their reputation. Setup from an older iPhone is quick, the interface is consistent, and accessibility tools such as VoiceOver, Voice Control and Eye Tracking are built in. Hindi and Marathi keyboards and Siri in Indian English are supported, which makes daily typing and voice commands comfortable for many Indian users.

Value for Money

At the time of checking, the iPhone 15 128 GB was listed on Flipkart at Rs 69,999 and the iPhone 15 Plus 128 GB at Rs 69,900, each before any bank or exchange offer. Prices for the 256 GB and 512 GB versions could not be confirmed from a main seller. The two phones therefore cost almost the same, which makes the choice about size alone: if the larger screen and battery of the Plus appeal, it is the better deal; if you prefer a compact phone, the iPhone 15 costs no more. Against newer iPhones the saving is real, but you give up their newer chips and cameras, so these phones make most sense when a discount or exchange brings the price down.

Who Should Buy It?

The iPhone 15 suits someone moving from an older iPhone, or from a budget Android phone, who wants a dependable camera, years of smooth use and a compact body. The iPhone 15 Plus suits heavy video watchers, travellers and anyone who gets through the day with the screen on for hours. Both are sensible for families that already use Apple devices.

Who Should Consider Alternatives?

If you want a fast-refresh screen, a dedicated telephoto lens or the latest iPhone features, newer iPhone models or the Pro line are the better route. Buyers who want fast charging in the box, a headphone jack or expandable storage will be happier with an Android phone. And if you are choosing on price alone, a current-generation phone at a lower price may offer more.

Editorial Verdict

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus remain two of the most balanced phones Apple has made. The A16 Bionic still handles everything an ordinary user throws at it, the 48 MP camera and 4K Dolby Vision video are a clear step above most phones in this class, and the OLED screen is bright enough for strong sunlight. The IP68 rating and Ceramic Shield glass add confidence for daily use, and the move to USB-C makes life simpler. The compromises are real, though. There is no charger in the box, fast charging is modest, the 128 GB base storage fills up, and the screen does not advertise a high refresh rate. Choose the iPhone 15 for compact comfort and the Plus for screen size and endurance. Both are good, long-lasting phones. Since newer iPhones have already arrived, the sensible time to buy is when a discount or an exchange offer narrows the gap, and the choice between the two should rest on the size you are comfortable carrying every day.
